For Gum Health

Gum Disease

In the UK, around ninety percent of adults may have some level of gum disease. This common issue can progress to more serious periodontitis if it is left untreated, which can cause bad breath and may even destroy the bone that supports your teeth. Read more.

People with periodontitis can experience symptoms such as: bleeding gums when brushing, red and swollen gums and / or an unpleasant taste in the mouth. If you have noticed signs of periodontitis, we would advise that you schedule a visit to Square Mile Dental Centre for a check-up with one of our clinicians, who will assess the health of your gums. Following your assessment we can provide the most beneficial periodontitis treatment which will help to improve your oral health, as well as working to prevent the development of other related issues and more serious health risks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can treatment provide a permanent solution?

At Square Mile Dental Centre, our treatments are designed to provide long-term solutions. As part of your treatment we will also provide advice on the best way to care for your teeth, gums and overall mouth health. This advice will help to maintain the outcome of the treatment for as long as possible, and regular check-ups will help to identify any developing issues.

Is gum disease painful?

There are a number of concerns related to gum disease. In some cases, inflamed gums can also become sensitive which may cause a degree of discomfort. Although this can be a little uncomfortable, it is not usually described as painful – unless the issue is quite severe.

What other concerns can gum disease lead to?

Untreated gum disease can often lead to concerns that affect the teeth and the bones that support them. For instance, when gum disease is allowed to progress a person may find they eventually experience gum shrinkage, or the loss of a tooth.

Can I prevent gum disease?

Square Mile Dental Centre will always encourage taking preventive measures towards the development of gum disease. Good oral hygiene is the best way to ensure maintaining strong teeth and gums. Our advice includes regular brushing, flossing, using mouthwash, consuming less acidic foods and drinks and (most importantly) visiting your dentist for regular check-ups.
